Kiltman Goes To Cardiff

Posted in Weekends with tags , , on February 14, 2008 by thekiltman

It’s Thursday now, and it’s taken me this long to get over the trauma of Cardiff. I returned from Cardiff this past Sunday evening. I was there to watch Scotland play Wales at rugby, where we lost badly, again. Now Cardiff is a great place, with fantastic beer called Brains. I love that stuff, I could drink it all the time.

Anyway, back to the trauma. After the game, the streets of Cardiff were packed with people in various states of drunkenness. Like most of my fellow Scotsman, I was wearing a kilt. There seems to be a particular breed of female that attends the rugby in Wales. Slightly larger ladies, short dyed hair, late forties/early fifties, not very attractive. These ladies seem to think that it is okay to demand that you show them what is under your kilt. Then, when you don’t, it is okay to shout abuse at you. And then when you ignore them further they think it is okay to grab at the bottom of your kilt, and attempt to pull it up so they can see underneath it. And when I object to this, it’s all my fault, and I’m in the wrong. Turn the tables now for a moment, if I did this to a woman walking down the street, I’d be getting arrested. It’s quite a scary experience to have all these old woman trying to grope you on the street

Dublin is up next for me. I’m still debating if I should wear the kilt or not

And they’re off

Here I go with my first post to my blog.  I’ve always sort of enjoyed writing, and currently I find myself with more time on my hands, so I thought I’d get into it.  I’ve recently been inspired by a new friend I met online, so here were are.  Thank you for the inspiration

I’m sure I will write about all sorts of things, my main interests are sports, music, and movies.  Right now I am fixated on following Scotland in the Six Nations Rugby tournament.  This is an annual rugby event, involving the national teams of Scotland, Wales, Ireland, France, Italy, and England.  I’ve been over to Edinburgh to see us beat the Welsh, and I’m off to the pub tomorrow to see us play Italy.  In the course of the next month I will be back in Edinburgh to see the Irish, and then to Paris the following week for the French match

I also have an eye westwards, to Florida, and the Boston Red Sox spring training.  I do have a passion for baseball.  I intend to subscribe this year to MLB.com online so that I can watch games on the internet.  I love baseball, for some reason.  It is a great game, and if  I could I’d love to go and watch games every week.  I had a vacation in 2005 where I had an east coast tour visiting different ball parks, and this is something I really must do again soon.

Following football is another thing of mine.  Soccer to americans, football to everyone else, it is a game I’ve followed as long as I can remember.  A fan of Aberdeen Football Club, my home town team, and Manchester United in the English League.  As the season reaches its climax in May, things are just starting to get really interesting

I also love music, and I’m fortunate that I get to see so many bands play live here in Amsterdam.  Over the coming couple of months it seems that I have a band to see each week.  Something I get excited about, I’m always on the lookout for something else to go and see.  My favourite band is Pearl Jam, having seen them eleven times last year, with plans for one more this year.  To me, this is truely the best music in the world

And thats all I got for now
